Balance and Contact
Beside hitting the devilstick back and forth there are quite different
ways of playing it. For example you can balance the stick or make movements
while keeping contact with the handsticks all the time. This is quite
similar to contact juggling.
For balancing you can use the handsticks or the classical body parts
like chin, forehead, foot or elbow. The most important hint at balancing is
to look at the upper end of the stick. At that point you can see best in
which direction the stick is starting to fall and you can correct it
immediately with little movements.
There are a lot of tricks where you keep contact between the handsticks
and the devilstick constantly. For that it is helpful if one handstick is
accelerating and the other one slows down the movement at the same time.
This allows you a permanent control of the motion.
